Daniel, I understand that :-) But, there is no explicit place we set an icon name for the messaging menu. We only set an "Icon" in the .dektop file for Ubuntu One, which covers everything in:
* the unity launcher * the main menu * the unity dash * the messaging menu I've asked around and as far as it looks there is no way to specifically set a different icon name for the messaging entry.
