Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Ubuntu 10.10, i386

I am not sure if this is a bug in GNOME Network Manager. It could be
problem related to IPWireless card configuration or to udev rules or
something else. Modem is not well configured to the system, it cannot be
controlled from GNOME Network Manager.

My notebook has PC-CARD/PCMCIA slot. I have two PCMCIA modems, Huewai
E620 and IPWireless UE PCMCIA V3. Both are GSM/GPRS/EDGE/3G modems.

When I insert E620 modem, modem is detected and I can
configure/connect/disconnect from GNOME Network Manager.

When I insert IPWireless modem, modem is not detected and I CANNOT
connect /disconnect from GNOME Network Manager.

I can configure IPWireless modem with pppconfig tool and it works when I
connect/disconnect from CLI with pon and poff commands.

I followed this "howto in Czech", I created pppd configuration with pppconfig
tool and it works. But only from CLI.

The howto is outdated, modem module ipwireless is in the kernel
(2.6.35-27-generic-pae), there is no need to compile modem module from a source
code. Modem is detected when plugged-in and modem device /dev/ttyIPWp0 and
monitor device /dev/ttyIPWp8 are created.

The problem is that this modem is not integrated to the system well, it
cannot be controlled from GNOME Network Manager in easy way.
