Markus: Your suggestion is effectively covered by Bug #91064 . I also have a sneaking suspicion you can use the 96xx drivers (now called just nvidia-glx) for your geforce4 (see http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/README/appendix-a.html ). Make sure you are fully up to date and then try using restricted-manager .
