I'm not sure, but I think that fglrx is to blame for that.
I had a HD3200 and every time the kernel was updated I had trouble. Try the
radeon driver instead (I guess you need to unblacklist it firts)

I'm running it pretty reliably on my X300, Intel 4965, but haven't tested
all that thoroughly.
