Hey, I've been having this issue ever since I upgraded to Maverick.
Not only in upgrade-manager, but also when using the nvidia X Server Settings, and trying to 'Save to X configuration file' (see attached screenshot). I've read the whole bug report, and seems like there is a fix, but no more comments after Jan 31st ... ValiSystem said confirmed on Dec 2010 that the polkit update from PPA works ...
