I'm actually fine with this new behavior now that I know the why and how to get the history written to (exit command; Ctrl+d Certainly it's not my place to mark as 'will not fix', though I think someone in that position should either do so or comment as seen fit. It wouldn't hurt to have noted this change in the bash changelog or to do so appropriately in the future if no change to this behavior is made
