Tethering works for me using mainline via linux-image-2.6.38-999-generic 2.6.38-999.201103060905 and Natty's linux-image-2.6.38-5-generic 2.6.38-5.32. Tracking down right now how it is fixed as it'd be nice to roll this into the next update to Maverick's and Lucid's kernels.
