Public bug reported: Hello,
my CPU usage rises when there are ~16.2GB of log files (each ~40kB), that are not compressed. Log files are in 15 separate directories and the new ones are continually added. With such volume, it makes ~10% of CPU (Core i7-2600K) wasted. CPU usage increases rapidly with a small growth (it seems to be exponential). Logs are located on 360GB ext4 partition (26% used), mirrored on 2 HDDs (md). I do have a workaround - I can tar and delete that files and the speed comes back. Anyway, I think this is a bug, so I report it. Ubuntu 10.10, I expected low CPU usage, but got high CPU usage. $ uname -a Linux server 2.6.35-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 21 17:40:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 2.6.35-25.44-generic 2.6.35.10 ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: maverick -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730864 Title: High CPU usage with lots of files -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
