A bit more info on this bug report: @Sebastien Bacher: indeed changes do also reflect in the next window that you open. The current window, however, stays unchanged.
The actual behaviour of the checkbox is different when you enter the preferences screen when the checkbox is enabled, as when you enter the screen when it is disabled. Details: * Checkbox is disabled when entering the settings screen: enabling the checkbox has no effect on the current window. Reloading and/or browsing through the folders does not show the hidden files and folders. Opening a new window (ctrl-n) or restarting Nautilus gives the expected result. * Checkbox is enabled when entering the settings screen: when disabling the checkbox the current window is immediately updated. The hidden files and folders are now actually hidden. When you enable the option again, it also immediately updates the current window. This now even works when you close the "preferences" screen, as long as you do not close the actual window. Oddity: when you now open a new window and enter the preferences screen, toggling the checkbox updates the first window and not the one in which you entered the preferences screen. --- Marcel Ibes -- "Show hidden files and folders" preference requires restart https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104768 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
