Public bug reported:

Installation of 10.10 fails on old laptop running AMD Athlon XP-M 1400+
processor.
Booting from Disc displays some sort of splashscreen (purple screen with
BOX=Man in Circle at bottom of screen)
Pressing ENTER displays the install options screen
Selecting Install from CD (or words to that effect) initiates about 20 seconds
of intense CD ROM activity followed by a completely blank screen with a
blinking cursor about 4 lines down from top of screen.

No messages.
No error messages.

Using same disc in other hardware (Intel dual core desktop and HP
laptop) causes installation of ubuntu 10.10 so DISC is OK.

Steps to produce
Burn ISO.
install in CDROM
press enter key
select install from CD

What happens
Install fails leaving blank screen with flashing cursor
What should happen
Ubuntu 10.10 should be installed to hard drive.

Further information
Reproducable with both 10.10 desktop and 10.10 Netbook distributions.

On same hardware 6.06, 7.10, 8.10 and 9.04 all install as expected so
problem appears isolated to 10.10. (Haven't tried 10.04)

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
