Public bug reported: Graphics card is using Intel driver and is reported by Intel driver as Intel Arrandale. Second monitor is Dell U2410 (successfully detected by xorg and noted in /var/log/Xorg.0.log). Machine is a Fujitsu T580 laptop. When second monitor is attached, laptop screen goes blank and Dell monitor flickers with various patterns (or sometimes stays blank). Problem is 100% repeatable. There is no crash, and I can ctrl-alt-F1 to make text mode successfully appear on the laptop screen. Disconnecting external monitor, ctrl-alt-F1 and then ctrl-alt-F7 (or F8, depending) successfully restores X on my laptop screen every time.
Problem does NOT occur if I boot with the kernel from package linux- image-2.6.35-22-generic. Problem DOES occur if I boot with the kernel from package linux-image-2.6.38-5-generic. Problem DOES occur if I boot with the "mainline" kernel from linux-image-2.6.38-999-generic_2.6.38-999.201102260905_amd64.deb (found at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/current/linux-image-2.6.38-999-generic_2.6.38-999.201102260905_amd64.deb ). Problem occurs whether or not I am running a window manager. Problem occurs with both the xorg package versions from maverick and from natty. Thanks for your help.
