I have a similar problem, to frafu's complaint with 7.04, either 2.6.12 or 2.6.14 kernels, but I describe it this way:
*IDE LITE-ON cdrw on PATA secondary slave position will not mount* with SATA on primary master, Intel ICH5 controller. 7.04 otherwise quite responsive.
