Normally the expert guys here would recommend you to do a few google
searches to find the answer yourself... But since I am not an expert, I
think I can tell you. :)

try the command
lspci -nn | grep -i vga 
in a terminal to see your video card type.

and try
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -i "nvidia"
or 
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep  "ATI"
to see your driver edition.

And for the "video output" option, I am sorry I did not make it clear. It 
should be in your Mplayer setings, not in the system settings. 
If you are using an mplayer with a gui, it should probably lies in Edit -> 
Preferences -> Player. You will see the option on the top of the tab.
Or if you are using a command line mplayer, you can just add a line in your 
~/.mplayer/config file like this:
vo=xv
if you don't have a file at that location, simply create one yourself.
