am pretty sure this is not the same. In those report, the authors does not mention that the system started the upgrade. In my case (see logs) it downloaded packages, started installing it then froze in the middle of process. Then later, after hard reboot, it was unable to continue the process where it stopped it. So i ended up with a system half lucid half maverick. For now i have gone to console, made a manual upgrade: apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade; apt-get autoremove to fix it. I didn't have time to do the dist-upgrade, will do this evening. Anyway, console gave me no errors in the process.
