the ubuntu way of managing passwordless users is not through the use of
empty passwords (which are dangerous as they will also allow free access
to the machine services like ssh for that account), but using locked
passwords (which will look like the account is disabled in gnome users
settings) but enabling them to login without a password through gdm by
adding them to the nopasswdlogin group (the don't ask for password on
login checkbox) when adding a user and then managed that as an exception
through pam.

sadly the same problem described here would happen to those since gnome-
screensaver is unaware of that special group and the "workaround" is to
click on swich to another account and then selecting your own account to
get out of the lock
