After looking in /var/log/messages, I found a whole series of: Feb 16 11:31:20 dmuir-laptop kernel: [ 1599.649793] nautilus[6829]: segfault at 8 ip 00007f89a0802f4f sp 00007fffb0b74ba0 error 4 in libpython2.6.so.1.0[7f89a06ee000+23e000] So I removed python-nautilus, and the problem went away. nautilus 1:2.30.1-0ubuntu1.1 python-nautilus 0.6.1-1 ** Affects: nautilus-python (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: python-nautilus After running updates today and rebooting, Nautilus wouldn't open and there would be a gazillion "Starting File Manager" buttons in the taskbar (like #508890).
