@Seth: Very strange thing. It feels like "until yesterday it has always failed, and today when I want it to fail, it works." I wanted to create the trace files as asked for, but out of a sudden whenever I plug my USB device in now, the option module gets loaded. Whatever I do, plugging in the device after booting works now, and I have rebooted already five times, I have manually unloaded option module etc.etc. I will try again tomorrow and hope that it will fail again at least once.
