For anybody who is interested in a temporary work-around for Maverick Meerkat 10.10:
If you log into your account via a regular Ubuntu Desktop Edition or other session that you can access the wine *.desktop programs, install an application called Docky from the Software Center. Drop the Wine app's that you want into Docky and they will then show up and be accessible.
