Public bug reported: This might be related to bug #653626, but following the reporting bug instructions and given that is different hardware, I'm opening a new bug, also in the hope that this will aid to fix this in time for Natty.
Processor is an i5 650 on motherboard Intel DH57JG. This computer worked flawlessly with 10.04. Starting with 10.10 kernels, very early in the boot sequence (around 3 seconds in after first kernel text), computer would either hang or reset. Latest kernels have never hung but always reset. I can work around this using nolapic (in which case only one CPU is reported) or nolapic_timer (in which case everything seems to be normal -- 4 CPUs reported). I'm currently using 10.10 with nolapic_timer and everything seems OK. The information gathered by apport is from this status. Today I tested 11.04 alpha2 and it still resets without nolapic_timer. Using it, however, it moves on, shows the splash ubuntu screen, but later on it begins an endless loop reporting what seems to be (scrolling very fast) a kernel panic. I think I can see something about registers. This happens booting from a USB pen and I'm not sure how I could get a log of this boot failure. Any advice appreciated.
