I can't reproduce this on Natty i386 (octave3.2 3.2.4-8). It's not clear to me whether this has been fixed between Maverick and Natty, or whether it's architecture-specific.
It's certainly not as simple as "recompile with libftgl-dev installed" (or libfltk1.1-dev), since both of those packages *were* installed when the build daemons built this package.
