I'm having this problem on a freshly updated Natty.
I'm able to "fix" it by opening a console and launching xev, although I have to
launch it multiple times, as with the first attempts the xev window does not
appear (although xev is running). After a few Ctrl+C and relaunching xev, the
window finally appears, and at that point the mouse works again (for a few
minutes, after which it stops working again)
Thinking about it, I'm not sure if launching some other program instead of xev
would fix the problem. I'll investigate.
