Just a quick comment in-case anybody else is struggling with this, try deleting (moving out the way) your ~/.eclipse directory. I tried this after installing plugins that just would not initialize, they installed fine afterwards. I suspect I had some older plugins or updates installed that were causing incompatibilities.
