I tried commenting out the essid and key in /etc/network/interfaces,
then /etc/init.d/networking restart, then attempted again to connect
using network manager (the KDE one, not the gnome one, by the way), with
the same end result ... network manager asked for key, I typed it in,
set type to hexadecimal, then pressed OK ... hang at 28% "Activation
stage: Configuring device.", with many "Setting SW wep key" in
/var/log/messages. I tried making it a "static connection", too - same
result of no connection and repeated "Setting SW wep key" messages in
log.
