Hi, I have almost the same problem with the edgy version of Ubuntu. When I open it from the Ubuntu desktop, sometimes it just do not open, other time, Koctave open and every thing seems ok, but when I click on the window, it closes systematicaly. When I try to start it from a terminal, I have this error:
