Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev
Since updating my Fiesty installation a few days ago, my parallel IDE drive is no longer described by udev as /dev/hdc, but instead is being designated as /dev/sda or /dev/sdc depending on the boot. I also have two SATA drives in the box, and these are getting punted around based on whether the PATA drive comes up as /dev/sda (in which case they are /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc) or if the PATA drive comes up as /dev/sdc (in which case they are /dev/sda and /dev/sdc). I have worked around this problem by using UUID designations in the /etc/fstab file, and my system is stable. I first found the problem when I had added the SATA disks to the system after the Fiesty install and used the traditional /dev/sdb /dev/sdc fstab scheme. At the time, the PATA disk was /dev/sda. After a reboot, the PATA disk became /dev/sdc and my mount points totally failed. Including some info, please ask for more as needed.
