Thanks. Using this driver that I'm using now, printing works fine with black and white cartridges.
If the steps aren't too complicated, I can gladly help in testing support for color output. Just tell me what I have to do ;) It's indeed a pity that Lexmark doesn't provide the drivers for linux. Against that, we could have a list of brands/printers whose manufactuers decided to support linux.
