Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

I changed the hostname on my printer. I forgot about this and the next
time I went to print something nothing would happen. I noticed the
status of my printer however changed from 'Idle' to 'Processing' to
'Idle - /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed'. If it hadn't occurred to me
that I had changed the hostname, I probably wouldn't have figured out
what was wrong. After updating the device URI from
'hp:/net/Officejet_Pro_8500_A909g?zc=HPFEA7D1' to
'hp:/net/Officejet_Pro_8500_A909g?zc=hp-officejetpro' I was able to
successfully print pages again.

The relevant error messages in /var/log/cups/error_log were as follows:

to printer instead of providing helpful error message.
