Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev
Hello On my samsung Nf310 the brightness keys doesn't work on a default install of 10.10 (32 or 64 bit) nor with the latest updates and they actually crashes the system when using them. On 11.04 alpha 1 the system no longer crashes but the keys does nothing. I also tried booting 11.04 on my other Samsung laptop, a R510, and it has the same problem. And judging from the number of bugs on launchpad when searching for "samsung brightness" I'd say this is a common problem om samsung laptops. There is a PPA at this URL thas fixes my problem (and probably a bunch of the other reports): https://launchpad.net/~voria/+archive/ppa It has an updated kernel, udev and a kernel module called samsung-backlight (among other things). I think these fixes should be integrated in 11.04 so that samsung laptops work out-of-the-box! (I'm reporting this for udev as I'm not sure which package to chose) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: gnome (not installed) ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.37-12.26~lucid1-generic 2.6.37 Uname: Linux 2.6.37-12-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl Architecture: amd64 Date: Sun Jan 9 11:37:34 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007) ProcEnviron: LANG=sv_SE.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: meta-gnome2 ** Affects: udev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug maverick -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/700615 Title: The brightness keys doesn't work on a samsung NF310 (unless an unofficial PPA is used) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
