Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ntp
A global cluster of ntp servers now exists as a way of allowing vendors to supply default ntp servers in their ntp configurations -- see http://www.pool.ntp.org/ for details on the project. As a result of this, vendor supplied ntp.conf files, like the one Ubuntu uses, should probably be pointing at a global ntp pool and not at things like ntp.ubuntu.com I believe that the people who maintain the ntp codebase have a reasonable default configuration file supplied with the code these days merging it in to the supplied ntp.conf might be good idea. The GUI based "time and date" configuration widget should probably allow people to select first among pool.ntp.org geographical server pools and only offer particular privately run NTP servers if the user really insists. It might also be reasonable to guess a default pool based on the user supplied information on their location (based on the time zone). ** Affects: ntp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- default ntp.conf should use pool.ntp.org servers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/104525 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
