I'm also affected by this bug. I have a Core i7, an SSD and an Nvidia Quadro FX 880M. Things looked good with the Noveau driver, but when switching to the non-free Nvidia driver I get the ugly non-themed look. The workaround in #68 seems to solve the problem, and the warning about multiple xsettings managers is no longer written to my .xsession-errors file.
