Public bug reported:

just installed ubuntu 10.10 yesterday morning, my pc later that day had
issues shutting down. today there are errors when login. unable to
repair, or install any other OS on the system to clear the issue. wont
even download files from the web(trying to download 10.4 instead).
unable to do anything on the system to clear the problem and need it off
my system.

first error when log on is:
Could not update ICEauthority file /home/beautiful/.ICEauthority

frm there, it goes to the main screen and gives 2 other errors:
The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_IndicatorApplet".
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_FastApplet".
Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

from here I am on the home screen, but the desktop picture has changed
and I cannot make any changes to the pc config as far as the background,
adding items to the panel, changing theme, unable to download files from
the web, unable to change the OS, unable to install any other OS on the
system. also when it comes on, the ubuntu 10.10 screen(the purple
screen) has a lot of typing on top of it(like command line info)
covering the entire screen, highlighted in black.

cd that I created to install the software, I have tried that and am
unable to install. this image was downloaded from the ubuntu website
directly. I have tried this several times with no success. how else
would I accomplish this if the system will not accept any OS disk I use
in the computer at this point?

 I even used a bittorrent client http://deluge-torrent.org/

to download the iso image, the torrent protocol has a good error check
while download.

the problem I keep running into is the pc with the ubuntu on it has me
as read only rights although I'm the admin of the pc, wont let me do
anything with the disk(previous dvd downloads of 10.10 and 10.4) from
the link u provided me, will try it as a cd, but do you think this will
actually work considering it hasn't worked on the previous tries? pretty
much anything I try to do on the computer it wont allow me to do... well
at this point it wont open any program that I am clicking on, the deluge
thing didn't work either and this is a brand new computer, what am I
supposed to do at this point b/c this program has messed up my computer,
I have to message you from another pc all together at this point. is
there any other support or way to take the software completely off the
system in order to reinstall windows back onto the system b/c the basic
programs that come on the system wont even open? telling me the cd in
the cd drive doesn't exist...
