Public bug reported:

When logging in to Ubuntu the Ambiance and Radiance (and other themes) randomly
revert to Gnome default.
Just accessing Appearence settings results in partial recovery (in my case the
panels - with Nautilus keeping the wrong theme), but when logging in again, the
problem starts anew.
Also, If - as a reaction to the bug appearing - I select my desired theme (in
my case Ambiance) again in the Appearence settings and log out and back in, and
the bug appears, the previously selected Ambiance is shown as "custom" theme in
Appearence.

There is already a bug filed for this with useful information about the nature
of the bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/588155
However, no activity regarding the bug report except "me too"-reports has led
me to file the report again.

The following Ubuntuforums thread also provides a whole lot of information
about the bug, as reports of it appearing are piling up:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1575703

There is speculation that the problem has to do with the gnome-settings-
daemon not running on startup and/or with the nvidia-current-modaliases
package. All symptoms are described in detail in the original bug report
and more importantly, the forum thread. I will attach the screenshot of
my desktop during the bug to this report.

I want to apologize for filing this bug report again if the problem is
indeed being currently looked at. But no activity regarding the first
bug report has some of us worried, because this is a pretty severe
problem. I already uninstalled Maverick because of it and I'm using
Lucid until the issue has been resolved.
