did it, after x started I pressed ctrl+alt+1 to watch the boot log: running local boot scripts [ubuntu startup sound starts, then cuts in the middle] [few seconds passes] 68.360000 BUG Soft lockup in cpu#0 [only switching off helps]
Anyway, now I have installed 7.04, and hot-plugging does not halts the system. Hot-plugging only halted the live CD system. However, wlan does not work, the link led lights up instanly as I plug in the adapter, then I try to switch to the wlan network shown in the list using the network tool in the menu bar, then it will show "connecting" forever. There is only one wlan nearby, which is open.
