Hey, has there been any progress on this?

I first noticed this in Lucid, and it continues in Meerkat on my Dell
Vostro Laptop with Intel HDA:

snd_pcm 89104 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec

The specifics of this bug for me are as follows:

Start any sound (for me it would be launching an mp3 file in Totem, for
example).

Open up Firefox or Chrome and play a youtube video.

The youtube video start and plays with full sound, the mp3 file
continues playing with full sound.

Start another application that plays sound (skype or any other number of
applications. Any application started after flash starts in the browser
will not play any sounds.

Kill npviewer.bin

Most sound streams that have been refusing to play will play
simultaneously.

Rinse and repeat.

What is going on here? Is npviewer really exclusively locking up
pulseaudio?

I am happy to help in any way possible to debug this. I just need
pointers on where to look for logging infomation and such.

system:
Ubuntu 10.04 X86_64
flashplugin-nonfree

I have one of those screwy laptops with intel GPU on-die and nvidia GPU that
will never ever work with linux, so this is the output for sound of lspci:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High
Definition Audio (rev 06)
01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation High Definition Audio Controller (rev
a1)

Notice I have the Intel driver loaded.
