During installation from the alternate CD the drive was still seeking very badly at some times (for about 10 minutes, during the other 20 minutes seeking was minimal/normal). At the "preparing packages for installation" part the bad times were when there were a two long seeks for every package. At some points I felt cancelling the installation as it seemed ubuntu install kills my drive... but now I have a working 7.04 installation.
