Public bug reported:

Occasionally when I boot into Ubuntu the sound will be non-existent. If
I mute and unmute the sound I hear a click in the headphones. If I do
nothing then I will hear an intermittent click first in the left side of
the head phones then the right side.

In the past booting into windows (I am dual booting) has fixed the
problem although the sound was not working in Windows 7 either (only
after I restart and boot into Ubuntu for a second time does it seem to
work). Also, now that the sound is not working the last OS I booted into
was Windows 7.

It should be noted that simply restarting my computer and booting into
Ubuntu does NOT fix the problem.

Could Win7 be toggling the sound? I am unable to kill the pulse audio
process. It has a "nice" rating of -11.
