Don't know if you are still interested but I solved the problem. About a week ago I was having problems with my browsers serving the wrong page, I would select a bookmark to go to Yahoo and instead the browser would display the Google home page. Another time it showed a page from Scientific American when trying to reach a totally different site. This happened in both Firefox and Chromium so I know it was not a browser problem. And both browsers would get directed to the wrong site (btw, if I remember correctly, the address bar would show the address of the site I was trying to reach but the page content was from a different site).
Anyway, I recalled reading some time ago about Google's DNS so I changed my network setup to use Google's DNS and when I tried installing the addon tonight it worked! Also, I was able to use wget to download the addon file. As a check, I switched back to the Qwest DNS and wget failed. Apparently there is some sort of problem with Qwest's DNS.
