I just posted this bug because I was on the verge of moving back to 10.04, and felt that I should at least post a bug report before doing so. However, I went on a bit of a wild-goose chase and came across this helpful page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/FglrxInteferesWithRadeonDriver I don't ever remember install fglrx, and certainly this has been a problem since the initial install of Maverick, so I think the bug is probably still valid. Anyway, following the advice further down the page.. "Problem: Need to fully remove -fglrx and reinstall -ati from scratch" Seemed to allow me to stop using the vesa driver and use the radeon on instead. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685232 Title: Cannot enable desktop effects in Maverick -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
