Running Ubuntu 10.10. I have NEVER signed up for Ubuntu One (on this or
any other machine). This is my laptop and no one else has even put their
fingers on the keyboard. I have just started getting this message
incessantly (8 times in the last 10 minutes).

What I was doing when this started was enabling a netatalk share and
accessing it through Mac OS X Snow Leopard running in VirtualBox 3.2.12.
Although this might be completely unrelated, I had just installed
netatalk and set netatalk and avahi to share my home directory. I then
went to VirtualBox (Snow Leopard) and connected to the netatalk share.
About 0.5 seconds after the connection, I got the first "Out of Space"
dialog. Now, pretty much whenever I go to my shared Downloads folder
from Snow Leopard, the box pops up again...
