Public bug reported:
After performing a clean install of Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat 10.10, I
found that I could not enable desktop effects. Desktop effects worked
without problem in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04.
What I expect : I go to System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual
Effects and select "Normal", and there are normal visual effects. I can
then go on to compiz settings and enable such things as the cube and
magnification.
What happens : I go to System > Preferences > Appearance > Visual
Effects and select "Normal". A box appears with "Searching for
available drivers". The screen then flashes several times and a dialog
box appears with "Desktop effects could not be enabled".
My system is:
IBM Thinkpad T40 1.3Ghz Centrino. Radeon mobility 7500 with 32MB. 1.25Gb RAM.
