I just found out what the problem was. My University has rrestricted wifi
access. The network itself is not encrypted but when you try to open a webpage
the first time after connection you get redirected to e page on which jou need
to fill in your password first. I must have tried to update my package lists
while being connected but not yet logged in since most of the files in
"/var/lib/apt/lists" showed the content of the login page.
After manually removing these pages and reloading my package lists. All worked
well again. Anyway I still consider this behaviour to be a bug since package
manager should not have downloaded those pages in the first place.
