pretty sure this was just an incompatibility issue with linux and nVidia bios 
on the ASUS board. I do not have that machine anymore. I would assume, knowing 
nVidia, that unless it is something they wished to address themselves through 
adding linux drivers, it would not really get fixed. Mostly had to do with 
audio BIOS drivers in nVidia chipsets. When linux was originally loaded, it 
would cause random volume errors, but after adjusting volume once, it seemed to 
stabilize. I think, for your sake, you could probably mark this bug as dead....
