After step 1 of comment #6, run these commands to rebuild and install
(no need to reinstall full debian packets):
sudo dkms build -m fglrx -v 8.771 -k 2.6.32-26-generic -a x86_64
sudo dkms install -m fglrx -v 8.771 -k 2.6.32-26-generic -a x86_64
Remplace versions by the real one.
