Hi there, thanks for the reply. It is with any of the applications I try to download. I have attached a screenshot of 1 in particular but it is not common to this application alone.
The gui bug is as follows: When starting my laptop and once arriving at the user login screen, if I login to the default, Ubuntu Standard Desktop Edition, the welcome tone will play and the default Ubuntu wallpaper will appear, as does the mouse cursor. Unfortunatly, this is all that ever appears. If however I instead login to, Ubuntu Standard Desktop (safe mode), I then have access to the OS, computer, files, applications etc. I then "switch user" back to myself again but not in safe mode and it seems to be operating fine from then on.
