i have to intervene here....
I stumbled uppon this "bug report", looking for a solution for exactly the same 
problem with my own Acer Aspire One 721. Since I'm using the delivered Win 7 HP 
version, I hardly think that the problem is with Ubuntu or the drivers.
Maybe a BIOS update would do the trick.

It would be interesting to check the Hardware of the Acer and the Dell
netbooks, if they've got something in common, maybe the same network
adapter. Perhaps it would help to contact the manufacturers.
