Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
Previous bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/644650 Okay, this is the second time I'm submitting this bug report (the first one is linked above). This time I actually managed to do a proper report with apport-bug, having used another tty (i.e. ctrl+alt+f6) that did not have the screen corruption. The previous report was submitted manually because I was unable to access a working terminal at the time of corruption. In my earlier report I managed to solve the problem, but apparently it was only for a single session. I left my PC on for a while and after a recent reboot things are back to the way they were. So... I am getting this strange screen corruption each time I boot Maverick. It happens in normal as well as recovery mode. At first I can see proper kernel boot log (I disabled the splash screen), but just before the gnome is supposed to show up I get these white vertical lines displayed instead (http://yfrog.com/n5stripessj). It appears that these lines are covering up a command prompt underneath. I can login by blindly typing in my username and password, but I cannot efficiently use a console that does not display anything useful. Apparently there is something wrong with the nvidia display driver because the xorg logs report that the module fails to load for some reason. I'm using a fully updated Ubuntu Maverick here. Applying the fix I described in my prev. report does not work any more. I even tried removing and reenabling the nvidia driver in "Additional Drivers" window. Recovery mode is bugged as well, but I can boot into Gnome with safe graphics by tapping the down arrow three times in the hidden recovery menu and hitting enter. Suggestions? Additionally I'd like to voice my complaint against the use of HTTP referers on this website (launchpad.net), as this is the second time I had to rewrite the whole bug report, having lost the first one in a denial as a result of my browser blocking the HTTP referers due to security reasons.
