I tried your method (byobu/vim from desktop, ssh in, exit vim), but was
not able to make it crash in the same way.

Also, googling around for "error 4 in libc-2.12.1.so", it seems that
that error is popping up in various around the interwebs.  Possibly a
library problem?  I'm going to add a task for libc6.
