For For what it's worth, the ice1712 driver still doesn't support suspend/resume.
The answer given previously about PulseAudio managing hardware; well actually, no, PulseAudio doesn't work properly with ice1712 cards because PA expects 2-channel stereo devices to exist. PulseAudio also doesn't manage the MIDI ports on the card.
