Today, I have tried the reboot options warm, cold, bios, smp, triple, kbd, acpi, efi, pci and force (from http://linux.koolsolutions.com/2009/08/04/howto-fix-linux-hangfreeze- during-reboots-and-restarts/), with and without 'acpi=off noacpi', to no avail. All of these have the screen going black, then a moment after, the fan slowing down and hanging, except when ACPI is turned off, where the fan does not slow down.
