For me the latest version of Feisty does not work with my newly bought Logitech USB Microphone. I can see the microphone with arecord -l. In VLC I can use /dev/audio2 as a capure device and then the microphone _DOES_ work. But it still doesn't work in Gnome (in for example the sound recorder). Contents of /proc/asound/cards:
